IH-META-001lowMetadata

Skill metadata problem

OpenClaw discovers a skill from SKILL.md frontmatter. Missing fields make the skill harder to identify and review.

What does IH-META-001 flag?

Flags a SKILL.md without valid frontmatter, frontmatter missing name or description, or a name that does not match the folder.

  • SKILL.md at the skill root with no frontmatter or malformed frontmatter.
  • Frontmatter without name or description.
  • A name that differs from the folder name.

Why it matters

OpenClaw finds and lists skills by their frontmatter. Missing or mismatched names make it harder to tell which skill you actually installed, which matters when lookalike names are common.

Severity: Low (5 points). On its own it stays below the default review threshold of 15, so it does not change the verdict, but it is still listed.

Can IH-META-001 fire on a safe skill?

  • A folder renamed locally after install.

How do I fix an IH-META-001 finding?

  • Add YAML frontmatter with name and description.
  • Make the name match the folder name.

CLI guidance: The name should match the folder name.

How do I tune or allow IH-META-001?

Rename the folder or the frontmatter name so they agree.

Every key is described in Configuration. To print this rule from the CLI, run ironheights rules show IH-META-001.

What can IH-META-001 miss?

  • Anything about intent. Perfect metadata says nothing about whether a skill is safe.

No finding means no rule matched. It is not proof of safety. Files larger than 1 MiB are skipped without being read; the verdict is then incomplete, not no findings, but the file is still not checked. See Limitations.

Scores and thresholds shown are the CLI defaults; your config can change them. List every rule from the terminal with ironheights rules list.
